Fractional Statistics and Interferometry in Quantum Hall Systems
Fractional quantum Hall states host quasiparticles with fractional charge and either fractional statistics or its extension, non-Abelian statistics. A direct way to demonstrate these properties is by interferometry in a Fabry-Perot configuration. However, due to complications in real materials, experiments to directly demonstrate these properties have proved challenging, and have only recently succeeded. My talk will review the basic concepts and will discuss how practical difficulties have been overcome in recent experiments. I will briefly discuss some other experimental approaches, including interferometry in the time domain.
