Title
"On the general-relativistic quantum-mechanical spectrum of hydrogenic ions”
In non-relativistic quantum mechanics, a point proton and a point electron attract each other with electrical Coulomb and gravitational Newton forces in precisely the same manner, except for their difference in strength by almost 40 powers of ten. Therefore chemists can safely ignore the gravitational pair interactions for their purposes. However, relativistic gravity and electricity are entirely different `forces of nature.' Even the basic problem of determining the general-relativistic quantum-mechanical spectrum of hydrogenic ions for arbitrary nuclear charge Z and neutron number N has been, and continues to be, full of surprises. In this talk I first survey what had been rigorously shown about the problem so far, then I present the recent rigorous results obtained jointly with A. Shadi Tahvildar-Zadeh and Ebru Toprak.
