Mathematical construction of two-dimensional conformal field theories
Two-dimensional conformal field theories describe many different physical phenomena. They are also the only nontopological quantum field theories that have rigorous mathematical constructions. I will discuss in this talk the progress in a mathematical program of 35 years to construct conformal field theories using the representation theory of vertex operator algebras, including the constructions of rational conformal field theories and logarithmic conformal field theories satisfying a suitable finiteness condition.
