Around the exact solution of the 2D Ising model

I will review a few recent developments about the two-dimensional Ising model. With Georgios Athanasopoulos, we have extended the elegant method of Kac and Ward to systems with negative coupling constants. A well-known consequence is that the specific heat has a logarithmic singularity at the critical temperature.

We observe that the Cimasoni - Duminil-Copin equation for the critical temperature, which was proved for general bi-periodic planar lattices with positive couplings, is valid more generally. I will also discuss the 1D quantum Ising model, which is given by a continuous limit of the 2D classical Ising model.
