“Some Aspects of Quantum Complexity”
Abstract: Quantum Complexity is a distance measure in the space of states of a quantum system which represents how hard it is to make a transition from one state to another. It plays a role in the long-time evolution of chaotic quantum systems and recently in the physics of black holes (which I will discuss briefly). The geometry of Hilbert space defined by relative complexity is an extremely rich source of conjectures, most of which are difficult to prove (like anything else in complexity theory). Being a physicist and not a mathematician, my discussion will be qualitative and very far from rigorous, but hopefully of some interest.
